Spike Lee pays tribute to Kobe Bryant on Oscars 2020 red carpet - Page Six

Spike Lee paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant with his look for the 2020 Oscars.

The “Do the Right Thing” director, 62, stepped onto the red carpet at LA’s Dolby Theatre dressed in a purple and gold Gucci suit inspired by the Lakers legend’s jersey that was adorned with the number 24 on both the lapels and the back of the jacket.

Lee, who directed the documentary “Kobe: Doin’ Work” in 2009, also wore a pair of Nike Kobe 9 Elite “Strategy” sneakers.

Bryant died in a helicopter crash on January 26; he was 41 years old. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna, an aspiring WNBA star, was also killed in the tragic accident, along with seven others.

This isn’t the first time Lee paid homage with his Oscars outfit choice; just last year, he paid tribute to Prince in a similar purple suit and a necklace inspired by the music icon.
